Line Shopping and Line Movement
The same bet can have a different price at every book. Taking the best one is the simplest edge there is, and watching how prices move tells you where the smart money went.
Line shopping
Betting −105 instead of −115 on the same side changes your break-even from 53.5% to 51.2%. Over a season, that difference alone can turn a losing bettor into a winning one. Having two or three accounts to compare is worth it.
What a line move means
A price moves when money comes in, or when news breaks. A move at a sharp book is more meaningful than a move at a recreational one. In ChalkEdge charts, a price getting more negative (−110 to −150) plots downward.
Closing line value (CLV)
The closing line is the final price before the event starts, usually the most accurate one. If you regularly bet at better prices than the close, you are beating the market, even during a losing week. It is the best long-term sign that your bets are good.
Where to see it
Every ChalkEdge prop and game shows the odds at each book, with the best price highlighted, plus a line-movement chart. The Line Moves page lists the biggest moves of the day.
