How to Research a Player Prop
A five-step routine that works for tennis, esports, UFC, darts, table tennis and cricket props.
1. Check the hit rates
How often did the player go over this line in the last 5, 10 and 20 matches? A strong L10 with a weak L20 can mean recent form; the opposite can mean a slump.
2. Look at the right splits
Surface for tennis, map for CS2, opponent style for UFC. A player who clears a line on hard courts may not on clay. Filter the game log to matches like this one.
3. Read the head-to-head
Past meetings show how this matchup tends to play out. A small sample can mislead, so treat it as one input, not the answer.
4. Compare prices
Check the sharp fair line and the best price across books and pick'em apps. A good prop at a bad price is still a bad bet (see +EV).
5. Check news and availability
Did the player retire from their last match, come off a long layoff or a KO loss, or is it a stand-in? ChalkEdge flags these under News & availability on every player card.
Put it together
Every ChalkEdge prop card shows these five things on one screen, plus a ChalkEdge Insight™ that sums them up. Add the ones you like to your slip and check it with the Pick'em EV calculator.
