How the rating works
- Every player has an overall Elo rating and a separate Elo for each surface, updated after every match ChalkEdge stores. Beating a stronger player earns more points.
- Surface Elo alone is noisy when a player has few matches on a surface, so the ChalkEdge Surface Elo blends the two: overall + w x (surface - overall), where w = surface matches / (surface matches + 8).
- Ranked: 10+ rated matches, 3+ on the surface, a match in the last 60 days. About 1500 is an average pro; 100 points is roughly a 64% win chance.
